SRO gallery is pleased to present Just Painting, a show of four painters—Jonathan Lyndon Chase, Julie Paveglio, Kimi Pryor and Nick Stolle. Curated by James Hyde.
Just Painting takes its title from the simplicity of painting—in essence the process of covering a flat surface with colored mud and glue with a furry tipped stick. Emphatic in these four artists’ work is the joy and delight of discovery in painting.
Further, there is righteousness to painting in these artists’ hands. While not ideological, each of these individuals paints an exploration of self within the world. Issues get worked out. Gender, race, sexuality, inheritance, history, alienation and desire are on the list—however it is the work and the working out of issues that is foregrounded, rather than the issues themselves. These artist’s works are marked by an inquisitive belief in the self and faith in the community of painting.
